Diary of a Human Animalمذكرات حيوان بشري
About the Project
Throughout the genocide in Gaza, and more specifically between 29 October 2023 and 29 February 2024, artist Amal Al-Nakhala recorded and indexed everyday life across Gaza’s shifting landscapes through a series of diary entries. Comprising illustrations, sketches, and texts, the diary is itself a displaced document: one that accompanied Al-Nakhala through successive journeys of forced displacement and, more recently, into exile in Cairo, Egypt. This publication reproduces these fragmentary and uneven entries—with their gaps, delays, and repetitions—formally registering the ongoing temporality of genocide and the violence it produces. It also includes additional entries made in Gaza and Cairo after the original diary was completed, as the genocide continues to destroy lives and environments across Palestine.
